Yes folks, this is the place if you think you are tough enough and strong enough and it is secluded enough, then you just found the "Right" place. This is not for the wanna be or the ones who watch the reality shows about Alaska, as this is the "Real" Deal!
Here you can drive to within a quarter mile of the property along the Glenn Highway which is about a hour and a half from Anchorage (Mile 76.2). There you turn towards the river and that puts you in front of this private, cable tram station (see photos). And yes, from here you have to pull yourself on a little platform across the river to the other side to reach total seclusion.
Keep in mind, if you don't like visitors you just keep the little platform on your side of the river, and no one can bother you; not even the Fuller Brush salesman.
All your bigger supplies are brought across the river by snowmobile in the winter as the ice allows. Power boating is almost unheard of on this river as it is a fast moving, glacial silt laden river created by the Mat Su Glacier about 20 miles above here.
You may only see the occasional white-water rafter or kayaker floating by.
This is an old, historic area from the early 19th century where explorers searched for coal, gold and other minerals. Some old relics may still be found.
The Place itself is a very comfortable, well equipped home with the master bedroom on the 2nd story. The structure itself has been built off the ground so wild animals can not directly walk into your dining room.
As you can see in the pictures, it has all the creature comforts and then some more. It is well insulated and heated; the place will keep you toasty warm all winter long.
There is also the "Old Trapper" cabin, which has been painstakingly restored and makes a nice place for visitors or…
There is also the Sauna building, a large Shed/Workshop and of course, the "Ol Outhouse". There was also a well drilled at great expense (see well log in the detail section). The owner uses an inverter panel and has a wind generator as well as a generator for the power supply and should everything fail, he also has propane lights. The Place is totally self sufficient.
Yes, Rick and his wife have lived there many years in their secluded life style where they live off the land, growing vegetables in their greenhouse and garden, trapping and yes, fishing, as he knows some very secret fishing holes. And he has cut many secret trails for trapping and hunting, which he will only show once you have bought the property.
Here you will have Moose coming by showing off their young or see big Bulls fighting for their territory. Of course, there are Sheep in the mountains and Wolverines coming through the yard as well as Lynx and the occasional caribou. Naturally, there are wolves that use the river, especially in the wintertime as a corridor to move from place to place.
For bears, you will have them both, Black and Brown, so a clean home site is of utmost importance.
There is an endless supply of firewood available and you have your own shooting range.
So you think you are tough enough and cut out for this kind of lifestyle? Well, and when you want to take your lady to the city for shopping, you take her on the cable crossing back to civilization, just don't be afraid of height and water when you cross the river.
