There is a large Solar Panel system with a tracker and a large battery bank, where even during the winter months you only have to use your generator now and then.  Of course, the generator can be started or shut off – remotely for your convenience.

The place is heated by wood and or oil for redundancy, so on a resupply trip to town you come back to a nice warm and cozy place. There is lots of firewood storage and of course, the hydraulic log split helps a bit.
