You will find this awesome property on the northerly side of Mt. Yenlo up on a ridge. Access to this area is strictly by snowmobile or an airplane with tundra tires in the summer or skis.
The snowmobile access, depending upon conditions and skill, can be somewhat challenging as this area gets lots of snow and trails can be hard to find for the novice.
I have personally been to this area several times by snowmobile and plane and understanding and navigating with a GPS is almost a must.
One can either go from the Petersville Area (Kroto Creek) which is about a 40 mile trip, the trails pretty much fizzle out after crossing Lake Creek, or you can come up the Yentna River past Skwentna, take the Donkey Lake Trail and just before you hit Donkey Lake you may find a winding trail through the woods going up to the ridge, where the cabins are located.
A trip well worth it as this area has the most beautiful view of Mt. McKinley, Foraker, Alaska Range and the huge Yentna River Valley.
There used to be a basic cabin there but since no one has been there for many years the bears and critters took over and now there is no value associated to whatever is left.
This area is also known for "Trophy" size Moose – Wolves – and of course, the "Mighty" Grizzly that roam the hillsides of Mt. Yenlo.
I have been told that one may be able to get a 4 wheeler from the Donkey Lake/Creek Trail Head up to that area, but then how do you get the 4 wheeler to Donkey Lake? Jet boat…?
Don’t look for utilities, although your cell phone should work in that area.
I want to warn you this location is not for the feint of heart!!!
